ONEROCK Application Guide – No Mesh System
The following application method is suitable for appropriately prepared, stable substrates where reinforcing mesh is not required.
Step 1 – Surface Preparation
Before application, ensure the substrate is clean, completely dry, level, structurally sound and free from dust, grease or loose material.
Apply one coat of PRIMER or PRIMERQUARTZ, selecting the appropriate primer for the substrate.
Allow approximately 30–60 minutes before proceeding, depending on the ambient temperature, humidity and surface conditions.
Step 2 – ONEROCK L Basecoat
Apply one or two thin coats of ONEROCK L using a stainless steel trowel, applying firm, even pressure to achieve a consistent surface.
Allow approximately 8–12 hours drying time between coats.
Once dry, sand each layer using 40 grit abrasive paper and thoroughly vacuum the surface to remove all dust before continuing.
Step 3 – ONEROCK M or ONEROCK S Finishing Coat
Depending on the desired texture and appearance, apply one or two finishing coats.
ONEROCK M – Fine Textured Finish
Apply using a stainless steel trowel with consistent pressure to create a refined decorative surface.
Allow approximately 6–8 hours to dry before sanding with 120 grit abrasive paper.
ONEROCK S – Ultra Smooth Finish
For a finer, smoother decorative appearance, apply ONEROCK S using a plastic trowel.
Allow approximately 6–8 hours to dry before sanding with 220 grit abrasive paper.
Following sanding, thoroughly vacuum the surface to ensure it is completely free from dust.
ONEROCK S may also be applied after ONEROCK M where an additional level of smoothness is required.
Step 4 – Protective Sealer
Once the decorative coating has fully dried and the surface is clean, apply two coats of VARNISH W, a two component, water based aliphatic polyurethane protective sealer.
Mixing ratio: 5:1
Follow the manufacturer's recommended mixing, application and drying instructions to achieve the required level of protection.
Recommended System Build Up
PRIMER or PRIMERQUARTZ – 1 coat
ONEROCK L – 1 to 2 coats
ONEROCK M – 1 coat
ONEROCK S – Optional coat for an ultra smooth finish
VARNISH W – 2 coats
The finishing system can be adapted to suit the desired decorative effect and substrate requirements.
Drying Times & Application Conditions
All stated drying times are based on an ambient temperature of 20°C and a maximum relative humidity of 60%.
Drying times will vary depending on temperature, ventilation, humidity, substrate absorbency and application thickness.
For optimum results:
Apply each coat as thinly and evenly as possible.
Ensure every layer is sufficiently dry before applying the next.
Maintain suitable ventilation throughout the application and curing process.
Remove all sanding dust between coats.
Avoid applying over damp, unstable or poorly prepared substrates.
Always respect existing movement and expansion joints.
Professional Application Recommended
ONEROCK is a specialist decorative coating system intended for professional use. Correct substrate preparation, application techniques and sealing are essential to achieving a durable, high quality finish.
